I took the picture with my unlocked / pawned iPhone . How ironic is that?

Recycling to the max

Buying new gadgets always leaves me with the chore of cutting up the packaging and placing it in the recycling bin. Recently I bought a Sony Bravia X-series LCD display and ended up with a rather large cardboard box.

I’ve had this cabinet without a back in my garage for a while and have been contemplating blocking the back so that it becomes a fully enclosed cabinet. A few days ago I was having a BBQ and mentioned it to my uncle who is a carpenter. His immediate response was “why don’t you just cut up that big box over there and use it instead of buying some wood”. Well that’s exactly what I did and here are some pictures showing the process.

1. Half covered back of cabinet. Nails were used to attach cardboard to the back of cabinet.

2. View from the inside of the cabinet. Looks just like the inside of a box.

3. Rear view of finished product with me standing behind it. Lots of gaffer tape used to seal gaps.

Well now I just need to paint it!

And here is the finished product. It won’t win any beauty contents however it will keeps it contents dust free.

new hardware found

A few days ago I posted about the blue screen of death I saw on a plasma screen at Westfield shopping centre in Chatswood, Sydney Australia.

A few days later I was walking through the same building, except I was one floor down, and came across this multimedia phone booth that had detected some new hardware. I guess this building just does not get on with Windows driven hardware and is just crying out for some Linux devices.

The other day I was walking through Westfield Chatswood, and came across this plasma display showing a classic Windows blue screen of death. I have seen many of these but by far the funniest blue screen of death I have seen is the condom vending machine in the mens toilets at Hoyts cinemas on George street in Sydney.

Mac by led light

I recently took some pictures of my Mac in the dark with the only source of illumination being the blue lights of the hard disks, the red lights of the optical mouse and the green lights of my adsl modem. I was really surprised by the results.

This picture takes in my whole desk. From left to right you can see a firewire hard disk, a USB hard disk, a 23″ Cinema display, an optical mouse, an ADSL modem, a Linksys NSLU2 and a network switch. The case of the Apple G5 is not visible as it is stashed to the left of the desk to save space.

Time stood still

Around 11:30 p.m last night I hit the platform at Town Hall station to grab the last train bound for Chatswood. The next train would be arriving in about 24 minutes, at around 11:54 p.m. “Sweet” I thought, time to chill out and listen to some podcasts. Around 11:42 p.m the platform monitor showed it arriving in 12 minutes. At 11:50 p.m it was still arriving in 12 minutes. The monitor insisted it would be arriving in 12 minutes, all the way until 12:03 p.m. Sydney Rail must be celebrating the 100th anniversary of Einstein’s theory of relativity as they conclusively proved that time flows at a different rate for different observers, depending on their frame of reference. If I remember correctly from my high school days, trains were used quite often to present the ins and outs of the Theory of Relativity.

This mural just appeared one day on a wall near the office. Maybe the owner of the house is a real fan of the movie. It’s a real shame that someone tagged it just a few days later. The mural can be found on Foveaux Street next to the small park at the corner of Foveaux & Crown Steets, Surry Hills, Sydney Australia.
