First time skier

Peter Skarpetis | July 11, 2005 | 10:55 pm

Last week I went skiing for the first time ever. My cousin has been trying to get me to the snow for the last few years and this time I finally gave in. After 4 days of intense training, I was finally able to enjoy myself and speed down some green and blueish runs.

The one thing I discovered from my initiation to skiing, is that mountain biking and cycling can be a real hindrance when trying to learn how to turn on skis. Half way through the turn you lean in the opposite direction and speed down the hill. Only a well timed dive can stop you crashing into the safety barriers. There was one occasion where I crashed through the barrier and then through myself under the eight seat lift chairs.

Here I am in the full ski gear ready to take on the mountain at Perisher Blue.
